Firefighter’s ball returns

This year’s Zionsville Fire Department Firefighter’s Ball & Awards Banquet begins with cocktails at 6 p.m. and the ball at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Palomino Ballroom, 481 S. County Road 1200 East in Zionsville.

This semi-formal evening will include hand-carved beef, parmesan crusted chicken, shrimp shooters, gourmet chocolate favors, ZFD awards, silent auction items, dancing and drinks in a custom ZFD glass.

Tickets are $40 each. Call 873-5358 to R.S.V.P. or stop by the Zionsville Fire Department, 100 N. Ford Road, by Feb. 4. No tickets will be available at the door.



Workshops help youth groups apply for grants

Youth as Resources, a program of United Way of Central Indiana, is accepting grant applications now through Monday, March 15 for community service projects designed and managed by Boone County youth groups. Grants of up to $1,200 will be funded. Additional grants for health and fitness projects are available through Fit City Youth Campaign. And a new Safe Student initiative addressing teen suicide, dating violence, drinking and driving and Internet safety is being funded by Fox 59 and the McCormick Foundation.

Information about the application process and project funding will be provided at three workshops for teens and adults. They will be: 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5 at Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 North Fifth St., Zionsville; 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9 at the Thorntown Public Library, 124 North Market St., Thorntown; and 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, Boone County REMC, 1207 Indianapolis Ave., Lebanon. 4-H exchange opportunities available

The Indiana 4-H Youth Development Program is seeking families interested in serving as hosts for youth from Japan the weeks of July 23 through Aug. 15. Applications, which must be completed by April 15, are available at www.four-h.purdue.edu.



The deadline for Community Calendar announcements is 5 p.m. Fridays for the following week’s publication. Boone County-related announcements will run at least once, and may run additional times, if space provides. If a specific date for the announcement to run is preferred, it should be so noted.
