SullivanMunce offers programs, activities

The SullivanMunce Cultural Center, 225 W. Hawthorne St., offers several upcoming events. Call the center at 873-4900 or visit www.sullivanmunce.org for more information.

• Spring Break Art Camp — Register now for Spring Break Art Camps for Kids. Campers will participate in a week-long, multi-media experience creating animal drawings, paintings, sculpture, jewelry and more. Youngsters also will study animal art created from the Oaxacan animals of Mexico to Netsuke miniature animal sculptures from Japan.

Full day camp, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., is offered for children 7 to 11; children from 4 to 6 can experience half-day camp from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Contact SullivanMunce for fees and more information.

• Opening Reception for “Go Figure” exhibition — Join us from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, March 6, as we celebrate the opening of an exhibit of 2D works by artists Caroline Mecklin, Jim Gerard, Judy Leiviska, Tim Engelland, Austin Pittman and Vandra Pentecost. The exhibit also includes sculptures by Matthew Davey, Jacob Dobson and Pat Mack. The works showcase a variety of styles in a wide range of media celebrating figurative art. The exhibit will run from Friday, March 6 through Saturday, April 25.



Nature Center plans events

The Zion Nature Center, 690 Beech St., will have several classes and events this month. Call the Nature Center at 873-8950 or visit www.zionnaturecenter.org for more information or to register for classes/camps.

• Garden Editing — 7 p.m. Thursday, March 5, adults. Myrene Brown’s presentation will show you how just a bit of editing will help decrease maintenance. Free.

• Summer Camps — Open registration begins Saturday, March 7 at the Nature Center. For children entering grades K to 3, there’s Nature Navigators Summer Camp. Register children for morning sessions, 8:30 a.m. to noon, or afternoon sessions, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., the weeks of June 8-12 or June 15-19. How about Biologist Boot Camp for campers entering grades 4 and 5? It runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 22 to 26. Fee for either camp is $85 for first child, $75 for siblings. Must register in person Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Sundays, noon to 5 p.m.
