presents Gimme Five
The Indiana Wind Symphony will present Gimme Five, a concert of three great Fifths, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Zionsville Performing Arts Center.
Former U.S. Navy Band Commander Donald Stauffer has arranged the first movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 in C Minor for band. The Indiana Wind Symphony pairs it with James Barnes’ 2001 Fifth Symphony subtitled “Phoenix,” one of the great band works of the beginning of the 21st century. Alfred Reed's Fifth Suite for Band, subtitled “International Dances,” includes an American hoe-down and a Hora that challenges the concert band.
