Former U.S. Navy Band Commander Donald Stauffer has arranged the first movement of Beethoven’s mighty Symphony No. 5 in C Minor for band. The Indiana Wind Symphony pairs it with James Barnes’ 2001 Fifth Symphony subtitled “Phoenix,” one of the great band works of the beginning of the 21st century. Alfred Reed's Fifth Suite for Band, subtitled “International Dances,” includes an American hoe-down and an exciting Hora that challenges the concert band.
The Wind Symphony also will perform Alfred Reed’s In Memoriam as a memorial to well-known national and local musicians who passed away in 2008.
