Community Calendar for Dec. 31


Fill the Nest night slated

The Zionsville Athletic Booster Club will host its annual Fill the Nest event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Zionsville Community High School cafeteria (use southwest parking lot, entrance No. 37). Fill the Nest is a community pre-game meal and silent auction before and during basketball games. A burrito dinner will be served; the JV game will begin at 6 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased for $6 in advance at the ZCHS, ZMS and ZWMS Athletic Department offices or Kern Brothers Shoes in Boone Village. Tickets at the door will be $7.

Library schedules events

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library, 250 N. Fifth St., has several upcoming events. Registration is required for each children’s class and some adult programs. Call 873-3149 to register.

• One Book, One Town Suggestions — Now through Jan. 31 the library is asking for suggestions for the 2009 One Book, One Town book selection. The whole Village, from teens to adults, should be able to read and enjoy the featured book. Submit suggestions in person or online via the ask-a-librarian service at www.zionsville.lib.in.us.

• Get Smart Double Feature — 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, Lora Hussey and Olive Hoffman rooms. Students in grades six to 12 may enjoy two, back-to-back spy movies during school break. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

• Read to Me! — Jan. 5 to March 1. The annual winter reading program for children as young as infants. Students up to fifth grade may register from Jan. 5 to Jan. 31 by adding their name to the Winter Read to Me display and picking up a reading log. Prizes will be awarded to those who finish by March 1. The first 400 children to reach their goal will be entered in the grand prize drawing.

• Cabin Fever? Book the Cure! — Jan. 5 to March 1. Adult winter reading program. Register in person for the annual adult winter reading program and receive a snowbound packet of the essentials : a free book and chocolate. Participants receive one entry in the grand-prize drawing for each book read and recorded.
