New show opens at art center

Sugar Creek Art Center, 127 S. Pearl St., Thorntown, will feature work by Brenda S. Foreman, a multi-media artist, from now through Aug. 29.

Foreman is an Ohio native and lives in Hendricks County.

Library features family events

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library has planned the following:

• Books and Babies -- 11:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 16, ages birth-11 months. Babies will enjoy songs, rhymes, finger plays, action playing, a short book and play time.

• Minecraft IRL (In Real Life) -- 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, ages 7-11. Help bring the computer game to life by building characters from the game and competing in an element hunt.

• Acrylics on Canvas -- 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, teens. Start with a blank canvas and learn how to create a work of art.

• Summer Parent/Child Chess Club -- 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays, July 17, 24 and 31, ages preschool through high school. Join Paul Yearling to challenge your mind while playing chess. All skill levels are welcome.

• Toddler Time -- 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Fridays, July 18 and 25, ages 1-2. Walkers and talkers will enjoy stories, songs, finger plays and more.

• Game On -- 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, July 21, teens. Come to the teen area for group gaming.

• Lots of Spots -- 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 17, ages 3-6. Learn about camouflage and why animals have spots.

• Herb Gardens 101: Cultivating Garden Herbs -- 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 17. Master Gardener Amy Mullen will help you plant the perfect herb garden during this introductory level seminar to learn more about cultivating common garden herbs.

• Tandem Read Summer Style -- 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Thursday, July 17, and 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, ages 7-11. A parent/child book club. The July 17 book is "Savvy" by Ingrid Law; the July 23 session is about "The Giver" by Lois Lowry.
