Zionsville Mayoral Inauguration & Reception
The Zionsville Mayoral Inauguration & Reception is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, at the Zionsville Town Hall.
Join the Town of Zionsville to celebrate the inauguration of Mayor Emily Styron. The new mayor will be sworn in by State Senator J.D. Ford. The ceremony will be followed by a reception with musical performance by Chad Mills.
The event is free and open to the public, however space is limited, and those planning to attend are asked to register for a ticket at www.eventbrite.com
Art After Five
Art IN Hand Gallery, 211 South Main St., Zionsville, will play host to Art After Five from 5 to 8 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 3. The event offers light refreshments and opportunity to view artwork of students from Boone Meadows Elementary School. The artwork will be on view throughout the month of January.
Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday.
Swim Club Bingo Night
The Zionsville Swim Club will host its Third Annual Bingo Night on Saturday, Jan. 11, at The Cardinal Room at the Golf Club of Indiana.
The event will be a fun evening featuring 20 bingo games awarding themed bags and baskets filled with prizes worth thousands of dollars. In addition, the event will feature door prizes and raffles, appetizers and sweets.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the first Bingo game to begin at 6 p.m. The lively four-hour event is open to the community, adults aged 21 and over. Come early or come late and play. Entry fee is $30 per person, which includes food and non-alcoholic drinks, 20 bingo cards and one door prize ticket. A cash bar will offer a variety of beer and wine.
Zionsville Swim Club has served the local community for more than 40 years. Over the last five years, student interest in ZSC has grown from 125 swimmers in 2010 to more than 250 children ages 6-18 at present, making it one of the largest swim clubs in Indiana. ZSC emphasizes the improvement of the individual, the team and the community which strengthen the swimmers, their family members and the residents of Zionsville. The club leadership and culture helps participants develop goal-setting, determination, responsibility and teamwork skills critical to succeeding well into adulthood.
All proceeds from Bingo Night benefit the youth members of the club.
Flying Eagles meeting
The Flying Eagles 4-H Club will have a monthly meeting at the Zionsville Town Hall, 2nd floor Community Room, at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 10. If you have not registered for 4-H and are interested, contact the Boone County Extension Office.

Drop-in Coloring Xtravaganza: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2, for ages 3-12. Registration not required. We will have a variety of coloring sheets for all ages and a variety of materials for coloring them. Stop by and color with us.
Let’s Go! Winter Reading — In January: The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library is having a Winter Reading event for all ages. Read 20 Minutes for 21 Days. Prizes include a Grand Prize Drawing for a gift card to Great Wolf Lodge. The gift card will be issued to the parent or guardian of any youth and teen winners. A travel lunch bag or free book will be awarded to the first 500 people to complete their 21-Day Winter Reading journey. Weekly drawings will be held for those who record their reading online, and a full-sized candy or snack will be awarded to everyone who registers for Let’s Go! Winter Reading! Readbox — Beezus and Ramona: 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 2. Grades 3-5 with an adult. Registration open. Read Box is a parent-child book-to-movie club. Chosen titles are children’s books that have been made into movies. Parent and child read the book together during the month prior to the book club meeting; the night of the meeting, we will have a short discussion, eat pizza, watch the movie, and finish with a short discussion about how the movie compares to the author’s original work. Copies of the book will be available for checkout at the Youth Reference desk.
Safe@Home: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7. Grades 4-6. Cost $12. Registration open. This course designed to teach 4th through 6th graders how to stay safe at home alone. Topics include how to handle all types of emergencies, when and how to call 911, simple first aid, stranger awareness and uncomfortable situations, and more. Build self-confidence and a personal plan for staying safe at home alone.
Yoga 4 Kids and Families with Melissa Whybrew: 4:30 to 5 p.m., Wednesdays, Jan. 8 through Feb. 5. For families with children 4 and older. This class pairs stories and imaginative adventures with poses, games, and breathing techniques allowing your little yogi an opportunity to exercise, play, and learn how to manage challenging emotions. Melissa is a NETA Certified Personal Trainer, Adult & Children’s Yoga Instructor and more.
Safe Sitter: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11 or 25. For youths in grades 6-8. Cost is $55. This course is designed to teach babysitters how to be safe and nurturing caregivers, and how to handle children’s emergencies. Participants should take a sack lunch.
THE HUB — Beginning Electronics with Brian Hull: 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 13, grade 4 through adult. Explore Arduinos, LED lights, circuits, and common electronic components and learn their functions. Registration required.
Lego Read, Build, Play: 6:30 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, for ages 3-6 with a parent. Registration underway. The Read, Build, Play program combines reading and building with LEGO DUPLO bricks, creating a Parent-Child interactive story and playtime.
Robotics Workshop and Battle with Brian Hull: 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, for age 10 and older. Registration underway. Robot building workshop and battle at the Zionsville Library. Wings of Fire: 3 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19. Grades 3 and up. Registration underway. Love dragons? Come join us for a Wings of Fire party! We’ll enjoy trivia, crafts, and other activities related to the world of Tui Sutherland’s Wings of Fire book series.
Cybersecurity 101: 5 to 5:45 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, for grades 4-6. Registration underway. Talk with Cynthia Argentine, author of STEAM Jobs in Cybersecurity, about cybersecurity basics AND interesting jobs in this field. Like cybersecurity pros, we’ll form a “red team” and a “blue team,” and then play games to win prizes. Snacks provided! Come join the fun — no tech knowledge required! Storytime STEAM: 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., Friday, Jan. 31, for ages 3 to 6. Registration underway. Half storytime, half laboratory! Together we’ll read a story and then explore a STEAM concept relating to the book. This month’s theme is Simple Machines. STEAM is Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.

Coffee Connection Clinic: Coffee Connection Clinic is offered from 10:30 t0 11:30 a.m., the first Friday of each month. Next event will be Friday, Jan. 3, with the topic of fire engine review. BCSSI has partnered with Zionsville Fire Department to provide tools and resources that will assist seniors to live in safe, healthy and comfortable environments. Each month seniors are invited to join us for a cup of coffee, and participate in a question and answer session with Steve Gilliam, Division Chief EMS of Zionsville Fire Department. Coffee is sponsored by Copper Trace Family-First Senior Living.

Caregiver Support Group: Offered on the second Wednesday of each month, 6 to 8 p.m. in the Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 Wests Oak Street, Room 203, Zionsville. People caring for people need help and support. Caregiver support group will provide a safe and nurturing space for caregivers in our community to build relationships, share information, discuss frustrations and gain emotional support. Christmas Bird Count for Kids: 8:30 a.m. to noon, Friday, Jan. 3. For ages 5-15 with an adult. Whether your child is curious about the natural world and loves to go birding or has never birded before, Amos Butler Audubon volunteers will help children discover birding and hopefully light the curiosity for nature within them. The free event will include a session on birding basics, 90 minutes of birding fun, data collection, wrap up and awards ceremony. Take binoculars or field guides if you have them. Dress for cold weather and hiking. This workshop is great for scouts working on badges. Registration is required as space is limited.
