There are many good ways to dispose of your Christmas tree. Some cost a little, but many are free.
Ray’s Trash Service will take trees in the regular trash pickup from Jan. 2-15. Trees must be cut to lengths of less than 4 feet.
Republic Services will begin taking trees on Jan. 31 with the same length restrictions.
Boone County Resource Recovery System will dispose of trees for $2 at 985 S. U.S. 421 in Zionsville.
Experts say trees should not be burned in a fireplace or wood stove. Most evergreen varieties have a high content of flammable turpentine oils that could contribute to creosote buildup. There is a risk of a chimney fire from the buildup.
