Erin Salewicz, artist-in-residence at Thorntown's Sugar Creek Art Center, has launched her spring gallery show at the art center.
Salewicz has titled the show, which features a dizzying array of paintings, jewelry, clothing and accessories and other objects of art, “Spirit of '76: A Pop-Up Boutique.” The title references her year of birth and Tuesday was her birthday.
Salewicz characterizes herself as a mixed media painter, jewelry designer, and art teacher.
A product of Cathedral and North Central high schools in Indianapolis, she furthered her art education through the Herron School of Art & Design Saturday program while in middle and high school.
She divides her time between her Zionsville home and her studio at the art center.
“My home base is the art center,” she said. “This is my fourth season here.”
She considers the Thorntown art center to be “a gem,” adding, “I fell in love with this place when I came here. I feel like I live here part-time.”
Salewicz's exhibit fills the second-floor gallery with more than 200 pieces of art.
Her creations are on display and available for purchase at various locations around central Indiana, including Wyld Roots Boutique in Thorntown, Whiskey Rose Boutique in Frankfort, Mimi's Place in Kirklin, Indiana Yoga Studio in Lebanon, Cheveux Salon & Spa in Zionsville and at farmers markets in Zionsville and Lebanon.
The exhibit will continue through June 29. The Sugar Creek Art Center at 127 S. Pearl Street is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
