Traders Point Christian Schools in Whitestown are expanding their annual 5K to a "color run" this year.

“We're calling it a family fun run to branch out a little more and appeal to a broader community,” Ryan Gallagher, chief advancement officer of TPCS, said.

For the past three years, TPCS has hosted a 5K. This year, they're adding color to the race, as well as a one-mile fun family run.

The run will start at Traders Point Christian High School and finish at Witham Field there.

Participants give thumbs up or down when approaching color stations during the run of the 5K or one-mile run to let volunteers know whether to throw color at them. They can feel confident that they will get what they ask for, Gallagher said.

Shirts this year are white with a breathable material and a sponsors list on the back. The color will pop on the shirts, Gallagher said.

Breakfast will be included following the run.

Winners will be divided into age brackets and first-, second- and third-place winners in each bracket will receive a medal and be recognized. Timing will be available for serious runners.

“It’s about coming together as a community, hanging out and meeting new people,” Gallagher said.

The run starts at 8 a.m. May 11. All in the community are welcome and registration may be made online at
