Zionsville firefighters rushed to Lebanon Jan. 8 to help the Lebanon and Center Township fire departments battle a house fire at 733 W. North St., Lebanon.

No one was home when the fire broke out, and a neighbor said the couple both work during the day.

Smoke was coming from the roof, and flames were showing through the front window when firefighters arrived just after 9 a.m.

They quickly broke the front window, letting thick black smoke roll out, and sprayed water into the interior.

Mixed teams of firefighters from the three departments donned air tanks and took turns battling the blaze from inside.

The Whitestown Fire Department sent crews and equipment to cover other areas of Lebanon while the others battled the North Street fire.

Crews were at the home until about 3 p.m. LFD Assistant Chief Robert Wirey remained on site to investigate the fire’s cause and origin, which were not believed to be suspicious at press time Wednesday, LFD Chief Chuck Batts said.

The house suffered substantial smoke and water damage, but estimates were not yet available Wednesday.
