Zionsville Community High School is set to perform its fall musical Disney’s “Newsies” Nov. 14 to 16.
“We wanted to feature a large ensemble with a popular title and find a show that has principal roles with strong men and women,” Anne Beck, co-director and choreographer, said. Beck and Sam Chenoweth are co-directing and Deana Broge and Aaron Coates are vocal directors with about 100 students involved in different aspects of the production.
“The musical is based on the true story of the newsboys’ strike in 1899,” Beck said. “Our production has newsies of both sexes and lots of singing and dancing. It’s an extremely dedicated hardworking group of students who have learned a huge show in a short amount of time.”
Beck said that the productions are for the community.
“Zionsville gets a lot of support,” Beck said. “Dads help build the sets and parents help with props and costumes. It is a nice partnership.”
Beck said the musical productions vary every year to make it as diverse as possible.
“You should get your tickets sooner rather than later,” Beck said.
“Newsies” will be presented at 7 p.m. Nov. 14, 7 p.m. Nov. 15, 2 p.m. Nov. 16, and 7 p.m. Nov. 16 at the STAR Bank Performing Arts Center, 1000 Mulberry St., Zionsville.
Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for adults and may be purchased online at www.zionsvillepac.org/ or at the door.
