WASHINGTON - It's taboo to eat horse in America. Anyone who wants to kill horses for human consumption in the United States will face plenty of obstacles - one of the biggest being Congress' ban on Department of Agriculture funding for horsemeat inspections. But that may soon change: A panel in the House of Representatives has voted to lift restrictions on horse slaughter for meat.

SANDOWN, N.H. — Patch Wood Farm is a 14-acre wooded haven for horses purchased from auctions in various states and brought back to be rehabilitated and loved, primarily by the horse-loving youths of 4-H club Hooves, Paws and Claws.
