Camryn Gietl will be heading south to continue her soccer career.
She made her college choice official on Wednesday afternoon, when she signed with Florida Golf Coast University.
“It’s amazing to make it official,” Gietl said. “I have been really excited for really the last year since I verbally committed. It is just really exciting to make it all official today.”
Florida Golf Coast finished the year 11-4-2 under head coach Jim Blakenship and won the regular season Atlantic Sun title.
Gietl said several things about the school stood out to her before she made her coach.
“They have an amazing soccer program and academics there,” Gietl said. “When I visited there, it just felt like home and it was an amazing experience. I truly felt like I fit there, the coaches were great and I could really tell I fit in with there program.”
Gietl plays club soccer for FC Pride, and was named all-conference in the ECNL this past fall.
She helped her team reached the Elite Eight at ECNL Nationals.
A central defender, she said the FGCU coaches have told that her playing style fits in perfectly with that they are looking for.
“One of the main things my coaches have been talking to me about is my leadership on the field,’ Gietl said. “At central defender, you really have to be vocal and lead the team and that’s what they are looking for in the back line.”
Gietl said that before she heads off to be a FGCU Eagle.
“I think I just want to be more aware of the field, and tactically increasing that awareness so that I’m ready for anything,” Gietl said. “Then of course my speed and endurance are things I am working on so that I can be ready at the next level.”
Gietl said that she is considering studying chemistry or pre-med in college.
